A timely reminder has been issued by the government of Odisha asking Odia women living outside the state to apply for the “Subhadra” scheme which would be very useful for each lady. This thing was made to serve as an empowering process whereby Rs 80 lakh emoluments were paid to women candidates already. However, it has come to light that a number of diaspora women are eligible for the Subhadra scheme.

Missed applying? Fortune favours the brave

Urged by the deputy chief minister, Parvathi Parida, during a district-wise review because she found a lot of women migrating within the country not applying it-40% were facing verification hurdles while the rest had not applied at all-the government of the state made arranging a new window for applying. It will be available with the Subhadra portal as well as CSC centers soon.

Biometric and NPCI verification would be mandatory for this, meaning applicants have to visit personally to complete this step. The fourth phase of disbursement will be done in the last week of this month, targeting coverage of over 20 lakh women.

Why the Delay?

The state government is encountering issues such as:

  • Account mismatches
  • Pending KYC updates
  • Women opting out due to income tax bracket eligibility

Even among the list of 31,000 who quit the scheme earlier, 17,000 have since been retried. However, the 14,000 women who have not been classified as eligible within taxable income bracket

So far, the “Subhadra” scheme has affected more than 80 lakh people in the State through three successful rounds. The program best supports all plans to uplift women, particularly those most disenfranchised and disadvantaged. With preparations underway for the fourth phase, the government aims to include as many eligible women as possible.
