In a historical visit voted on by the people of the region of Odisha; President of Singapore Tharman Shanmugaratnam went on a two-day tour. This was the first visit by a head of state to the area. The high-powered visit by the nine-member delegation is meant to enhance economic cooperation and explore opportunities in skills development, technology, and industry.

Meeting the Chief Minister of Odisha:
The President Tharman is set to have in-depth consultations with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi over the issue of economic bonds to take the interstate relationship forward, and depth. The meeting’s purpose is to identify mutual opportunities in a wide range of sectors, including AI, aerospace, and renewable energy besides traditional trade.
MoU signed on Skill Development:
An MoU will be signed between the Skill Development and Technical Education (SD&TE) department of Odisha and ITE Education Services (ITEES), Singapore. This contract will increase the skill development ecosystem in Odisha by identifying the following areas:
- Hospitality and food services
- Digital animation
- Healthcare training
- Logistics and retail operations
Technology and Industry Collaborations:
The discussions will also include:
- Establishing a World Centre for Information Technology (WCIT) to facilitate the dissemination of cybersecurity, cloud computing, blockchain, and IoT technology.
- Making zonal Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) available for the government to improve their capacity and for a smooth integration of new trades.
Cultural and Industrial Visits:
On Saturday, President Tharman, the key figure of this momentous venture, will proceed on in his agenda to tour the Konark Sun Temple, the renowned attraction in Odisha that is a living testimony to Odisha’s culture. He will also in the course of his visit the vaccine manufacturing unit at Bharat Biotech (Info Valley-II). The vaccine manufacturing unit is, in fact, the epicenter of technological and biotechnology development in the state. Additionally, he will also inspect the vaccine manufacturing unit at Bharat Biotech (Info Valley-II) through his tour. The vaccine manufacturing unit is a technological and biotechnology hub in the state.
